BIBLE STUDY LESSON
TITLE: GOD’S YOKE
READING: MATTHEW 11:29-30 | PHILIPPIANS 2:5-7 | 1 JOHN 5:3-4 |
2 CORINTHIANS 6:14 |
BONUS: NAHUM 1:13
In today’s lesson, we will study
God’s Yoke vs. the yoke of the world.
In the earthly world,
a yoke is a wooden crosspiece
that is fastened over the necks
of 2 animals to plow or pull.
In the spiritual world,
a yoke is something or someone
that you are spiritually connected with.
MATTHEW 11:29-30
Jesus encourages us to take upon His yoke.
There is a good yoke,
and there is a bad yoke.
It all comes down to,
whatever you are bonded to.
Is it a good bond,
or is it a bad bond?
PHILIPPIANS 2:5-7
Whatever you are bonded to,
you will become a servant to.
When we become a bondservant,
our yoke is connected to
our mind, body + soul.
All 3 must be connected,
headed in the same direction.
This is being on one accord.
Because a yoke is useless,
if it is being pulled
in different directions.
1 JOHN 5:3-4
Shows us the power of God’s Yoke.
If we are bonded to God,
and He bonds us to His yoke,
we must trust in the yoke.
You might have to
work with someone,
who in the world
you don’t have a bond with,
but under the Lord,
the both of you can conquer the world.
Not for world domination,
but for world salvation.
Verse 3 tells us,
that if we love God,
we must keep
His commandments.
And we are commanded to
“Love thy neighbor.”
2 CORINTHIANS 6:14
Tells us to protect the yoke.
It is hard to bond something
to an unclean surface.
So, we cannot bond
to something or someone
who is not bonded to God.
This is an unequal yoke.
If we are unequally yoked,
we will be weighted down with sin,
and this will mess up the field.
Now we are stuck in the field,
instead of elevating uphill.
But how do we not die
in the field of bondage?
NAHUM 1:13
When we become
a bondservant to and for God,
He breaks all bonds
that are not equally yoked.
Jesus is our bail bondsman,
because our bond has been paid in full,
bailing us out of our sins.
Our job is not to
glue back together
a bond God has broken.
So, as we go into a new week,
let us break the bonds
that will have us stuck
in a field of sin,
but yoke ourselves
to the Holy Spirit,
and let our spirits and
burdens be lifted. Amen
